AnnotationCommunication between racial and ethnic groups is affected by stereotypes, non-verbal and verbal language and racial identity states, writes the author. To work effectively with minority groups, social and health care workers need to understand the communication styles and patterns of these groups, to affect the outcome of interracial contacts. This article is based on the author's recent book, "Race, communication and the caring professions" (Open University Press). (KJ).
