Annotation | Psychiatric morbidity is common among carers of older people with mental illness, particularly spouses. In this study, individual packages of multidisciplinary care were devised for spouses of older people with psychiatric illness in an intervention group, with a control group offered no extra help. Both groups were reassessed 14 weeks later. The initial control group were then offered the intervention, and both groups then reassessed at 24-28 weeks. Although no significant differences emerged, carers who were mentally ill at outset improved significantly. (RH). |
