AnnotationThe fundamental principle of prevention for older people is to increase quality of life and to promote optimal functioning, ideally at an independent level. This paper examines the nature of health promotion from an older person's perspective, provides a brief overview of current health promotion efforts in Australia, examines a selection of programmes, and looks at the implications for healthy ageing programmes. Implications for the future of health promotion initiatives for older people are considered. (AKM).
