AnnotationThis paper give general information about the incomes of pensioners. It includes information about income levels, changes in income over time, the different components of income, age and sex differences and adequate incomes. The information is based on the most recently published data, which in most cases relates to 1996-97. While average incomes of pensioners are increasing, the picture is not one of uniform advances. ACE believes that older people need an income of at least £150 to live on, yet the majority of pensioners have to manage on less. This paper replaces the May 1998 edition. (RH).
