Annotation | The Scottish Health Advisory Service (SHAS) visited services for older people in the the following localities: Badenoch and Strathspey, Inverness, Lochaber, Nairn, Ross and Cromarty, and Skye and Lochalsh. While a good acute service is being provided to older people, this is not the case with community hospitals. There is a general lack of a specialist geriatric service available to general practitioners (GPs). A review of the following policies and procedures is also recommended: resuscitation; admission and discharge; medical records; pressure sore prevention; and prescribing. While there are examples of good practice, also recommended is a review of the quality of life for patients. (RH). |
