AnnotationOlder people and their carers often rely on both social services and primary health services. Therefore, good strategic and operational partnership between social services departments (SSDs) and primary health services is of primary importance for how social care and primary health services work to help older people and their carers. The Social Services Inspectorate (SSI) undertook an inspection of SSDs' links with primary health services in 8 authorities, examining the state and quality of joint working. The main emphasis was on the degree and type of joint working following the community care reforms implemented in 1993. The report is intended to help SSD managers evaluate their organisation's performance, for which a checklist is provided. Appendices include examples of successful partnership in practice, and identifies who can be contacted for further information. (RH).
