AnnotationThe background to research carried out by Chris Greenwood and Jef Smith of Counsel and Care, for Hanover Housing, published as "Sharing in extra care" is described. Counsel and Care were asked to examine the working relationships between housing associations and local authorities. Major areas of concern identified were: the speed at which schemes are filled; responsibility for arranging and running social activities; the role of the estate manager; and the status of extra care as a "home for life". The value of extra care as an alternative to residential care was the possibility of a greater degree of independence and self-determination. (RH).
