Annotation | Lifetime risks of any osteoporotic fractures for 50 year old white women and men are 40% and 13% respectively. The authors present fashions in the diagnosis and management of primary osteoporosis, along with research evidence, including prospective studies and randomised controlled trials. They conclude by referring to recently published guidelines from the National Osteoporosis Society on the prevention and treatment of corticosteroid-induced osteoporosis, and from the Department of Health (DoH) on osteoporosis management (http://www.open.gov.uk/doh/osteop.htm).
