AnnotationMeaningful social relationships are important in coping with dementia, since individuals without social integration and support seem to be vulnerable to emotional and physical problems. This study evaluated a 12-month pilot befriending scheme for older adults with dementia in the Tynedale region. The aim of the scheme was to improve the quality of life of a selected sample of older persons through participation, social contact and friendship with specially trained befrienders. (AKM).
