AnnotationThere has been a tendency to believe that ethnic minority families "look after their own", to the extent that little attention has been paid to carers, particularly those caring for a person with dementia. The exploratory study described used qualitative interviews with 30 carers - 12 of South Asian and 18 of African or Caribbean descent - from English cities with known high minority ethnic densities. This paper presents a brief overview of the findings concerning patterns of care, awareness of dementia, and service utilisation. (RH).
