Annotation | Research has shown that women tend to assume the greater responsibility of caregiving for older relatives, and therefore the stressors of caring are mostly experienced by women. However, interpersonal conflict due to caring responsibilities has not been widely studied. In this study, in-depth interviews were held with 30 women caring for an older relative at home, to explore their caring experiences, including interpersonal conflict. Results revealed that conflict was a significant outcome of caregiving. Stress, role conflict, imbalance in equity, and imbalance in norms and values emerged as major themes. The findings highlight the need for more in-home respite care services, since it was the lack of time away from the care receivers that created most of the conflict. (AKM). |
