The elderly at the millennium courting the older consumer | Author(s) | Thomas K Fitzgerald |
Journal title | Ageing International, vol XXV, no 1, Summer 1999 |
Pages | pp 72-86 |
Keywords | Consumer ; Attitudes to the old of general public ; United States of America. |
Annotation | A major debate in social gerontology has been where ageing might be going in the future. In this article, the author looks at media challenges as responses to economic realities, as well as futurist predictions of the millennium - the pre-eminent metaphor for the future. Progress is noted based on current metaphors of ageing and the aged as well as on the status of older people in such consumer-oriented societies as the US. (RH). |
