Annotation | Following the Burgner review of regulation and inspection of services in 1996, the Department of Health (DoH) commissioned a study to estimate the costs of regulating residential and nursing home care for adults. The Personal Social Services Research Unit (PSSRU) carried out the research. This article outlines the methodology and results, which indicate that fees do not cover the costs of regulating care homes. However, it is important to consider the affordability to providers of any system that is implemented. (RH). |
