Annotation | The theme of World Health Day 1999, in the International Year of Older Persons, "Active Ageing makes the difference", recognises that it is key for older people to go on playing a role in society. This brochure outlines how the principles of Active Ageing help maintain health and creativity throughout the lifespan, particularly in later years. It explodes the following myths about ageing and older people: most older people live in developed countries; older people are all the same; men and women age the same way; older people are frail; older people have nothing to contribute; and older people are an economic burden on society. It also suggests ways in which individuals and policy makers can turn principles into policy to make Active Ageing a global reality. (RH). |
