Annotation | The Community Care Division of the Nuffield Institute for Health was jointly commissioned by ADSS Wales and the Welsh Office in March 1997 to assist with a review of the fit between needs and resources for community care in Wales. The pattern of community care funding was examined: services in Wales are just about meeting needs for residential and nursing care. Shortfalls in funding and provision for community care packages to meet home support needs are likely for older people and adults with a physical disability. This finding accords with evidence from the ADSS (Association of Directors of Social Services). Recommendations are made to support a new community care monitoring model in Wales. It is suggested that with more focused investment in data gathering and concentration on collecting some new data on unmet need, it will be possible to develop a more systematic and reliable model for understanding community care and expenditure in Wales. This will assist with PES negotiations in later years. (RH). |
