AnnotationThe TAEN (Third Age Employment Network) campaigns for better opportunities for older people to continue a productive working life. TAEN is a membership organisation of local groups and other organisations who share this goal. This first conference was attended by fifty participants and a brief report summarises the day's proceedings. Tony Watts addressed the audience about Government plans to fund Adult Guidance Partnerships on a regional basis and how TAEN should work in unison with them. This was followed by discussion on the Government's code of practice on age discrimination; members' presentations; and four workshops on topics: a) what can be done to tackle the isolation of older workless people? b) how can Government programmes make better use of TAEN members' experiences? c) benefit and tax barriers to older people seeking work and training; d) what cultural influences affect productive ageing. Julia Evans then described the PRIME initiative to provide support and soft loans to over 50s starting up in self employment. A final session covered a number of topics raised by the participants. A Members' Directory was launched at the conference. (KJ).
