Annotation | The Gwynedd Dementia Study, funded by the Welsh Office from 1994 to 1999, looked at support networks and the experiences of informal carers in looking after people with dementia. The Study was based on interviews with carers, and used qualitative and quantitative data. It confirms earlier findings that carers for people with dementia are typically female and older than other carers, although caring husbands are among the oldest carers. It presents data on the problems faced by carers, family support and formal service inputs. An analysis of carers' comments on service provision indicates that most problems with services are associated with crisis support. (RH). |
