AnnotationThe current study used structured tasks in a group setting in order to identify support activities for those with Alzheimer's-type dementia. A "decade game" required participants to guess the decades of major historical events. A card game involved recognising numbers on cards as the investigator announced them. The third activity concerned naming associates to words named aloud by the investigator. All three activities attracted those without dementia, but only the first two activities enabled functional behaviours among those with Alzheimer's-type dementia. Those with dementia demonstrated acquisition of some procedural skills. The current results indicate promise for structured activities presented over several months. (RH).
