AnnotationAn introductory section sets the stage for an understanding of the policy process by examining how government evolved in the US, and illustrating stages and models of the policy process. While the book's focus is on older people, the US policy process is essentially the same in any content area. Part Two discusses specific policies on behalf of older people, and evolves into an overview of the network of agencies created by the Older Americans Act, other federal agencies and special interest groups, all designed to represent the needs and interests of older Americans. Part Three discusses major public policies on behalf of older people: social security; health care, including consideration of Medicare and Medicaid; employment and retirement; and housing and social services. The final part discusses the advocacy process in the field of ageing. (RH).
