Annotation | The author outlines and evaluates constitutional provisions and legislative measures taken in India to tackle ageing issues. These issues are indicated in a positive or negative light, and gaps in policy are identified. Suggestions are made on future action to create a caring society; however, the welfare state ideology may not be suitable for India's welfare programmes. This was one of the themes discussed at the National Conference on "21st Century: A New Environment for the Elderly Making the Transition" held in March 1998 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. (RH). |
