AnnotationThe survey formed one part of a three-part study funded by the Department of Health (DoH), and designed to examine a wide range of issues associated with current patterns of residential and nursing home care for older people. The main aims of the survey were to provide a baseline description of the current population of homes, and to explore the relationship between the costs or prices of care and the dependency characteristics of relatives. This article outlines the results, with are weighted to reflect the national distribution of homes. PSSRU (Personal Social Services Research Unit) published a full report of this survey in 1998 as PSSRU discussion paper 1423/2. (RH).
