Annotation	The table presented amends and updates the summary table of mortality studies published by the authors in the Journal of Health and Social Behaviour, March 1997. To locate these studies, the authors searched Medline using the terms mortality, survival and deaths, with self-rated health and other synonymous expressions. Additional studies not reporting such terms in their abstracts were identified through careful monitoring of the literature. 19 studies published between 1995 and 1998 identified as relevant are presented chronologically.
