The ethnic minority populations of Great Britain latest estimates | Author(s) | Jeremy Schuman |
Journal title | Population Trends, no 96, Summer 1999 |
Pages | pp 33-43 |
Keywords | Ethnic groups ; Population statistics. |
Annotation | The number of people describing themselves as belonging to an ethnic minority group increased from 5.8% of the Great Britain population in 1992 to 6.4% in 1998. As with previous articles on this subject in Population Trends, this one uses data from the Labour Force Survey since 1992. The classification used in the 1991 Census is now being used in the LFS and other surveys, but differs from the previous classification. This means that direct comparisons of estimates for the various ethnic groups before 1991 with those for more recent years are not possible. The article highlights differences between the various ethnic groups in relation to geographical distribution, sex and age structure, people living alone and people born in the UK. (RH). |
