Annotation | The conference followed a series of six conferences held throughout the UK during Spring 1999, designed to encourage older people to speak out on issues that concern them. The conference was addressed by John McFall, Northern Ireland Minister for Health and Social Services; he focused on pensions, community services, and transport. Six workshops discussed the following three issues: planning a campaign strategy; putting a case to policy makers; and putting a case to the media. The review of pensions reform, and policy on community care were chosen by two speakers, respectively, Mervyn Kohler of Help the Aged, and Helen Ferguson of the Carers National Association. The launch of the Senior Network Northern Ireland was also announced at the conference. (RH). |
