AnnotationNHS Estates commissioned MARU (Medical Architecture Research Unit, Faculty of the Built Environment at South Bank University) to undertake this study between April and November 1998. The study's aim was to identify exemplary models of rehabilitation facilities and services in community settings. Hospitals and specialist centres were excluded. Case study sites were selected to give a range of profiles according to four key factors: mode, approach, care groups, and range of services. Each was visited, and a database compiled. Information, with photographs and/or a plan are provided for each as follows: Blackthorn Centre, Maidstone, a GP practice; Hove Polyclinic; Independence Square Disability Resource Centre, South Bedfordshire; Lyme Community Care Centre, Lyme Regis; Outlands Residential Rehab Unit, Plymouth; Peckham Pulse, a health and fitness centre, Southwark; Peckwater Centre, Camden; Jubilee House, a short stay centre near Penrith; St John's Therapy Centre, Wandsworth; Westway Centre, North Kensington; Whittington Centre, Lambeth; and Saltash GP practice, Cornwall. Two projects under development were also examined: Neptune Health Park, Tipton; and the Reach Centre, Abingdon. (RH).
