Annotation | The five position papers presented at the workshop are reproduced. Don Nutbeam's paper, "Comprehensive strategies for health promotion for older people: past lessons and future opportunities" is a development of an article in the Australasian Journal on Ageing, vol 17, no 3 (1998). Mima Catton and Martin White of the Health Promotion Research Group, University of Newcastle upon Tyne discussed health promotion interventions targeting social isolation and loneliness. Cecily Kellaher dealt with health promotion in the Republic of Ireland, where the subject has received considerable attention. Gordon Lischman, of Age Concern England (ACE), outlined the genesis and development of the Ageing Well Programme, which was established as a result of the European Year of Older People and Solidarity Between Generations in 1993. Ros Weston considered advantages, pitfalls and controversies concerning the establishment of the evidence base for health promotion. (RH). |
