Annotation | The ageing ethnic minority population of Britain is set to increase tenfold over the next decade, but inequality persists in almost all services. Among the suggestions put forward by the executive director of the Eastwards Trust (Services for Elders) is the provision of sheltered housing or extra care housing in areas close to the families and communities of ethnic elders. Although family structures in these communities are being eroded, older people still want their families to be part of their daily lives. This article is also published with the title "Making room for the community and family in care plans" in Care Plan, vol 6, no 1, September 1999 (pp 21-24). (RH). |
