Annotation | The "Healthcare for Carers" project was developed and piloted by Merton and Sutton Community NHS Trust, with Pfizer Ltd, two primary health care teams, two carer organisations and three voluntary sector groups. The project recognised that carers and their health needs are often missed, as attention is focused on the needs of the "cared for" person. The resource pack has three components. The self health check is a booklet designed to assist carers in thinking about all aspects of their own health, with ideas and tips on how to remain healthy whilst caring. The carers health check has been designed for use by the primary health care team when discussing health care needs with the carer. The resource file provides carers and primary health care teams with in depth information on aspects of health whilst being a carer, and is designed to be used as a health education tool. It is organised as follows: recognising carers; the rights of carers; understanding the services; carers and health; physical health: activity and healthy eating; some risk factors affecting good health; mental health - stress and depression; making caring easier; planning a health promotion programme for carers; and information on organisations.
