AnnotationThe "Welcome Home" project has been developed with funding received from the Department of Health (DoH). The project aims to sustain and develop the quality of life for people living in residential settings for older people. A further aim is to increase the range of activities and community links available to older people in residential care settings. This publication is in two parts. Part A comprises activities that can be undertaken within the residential care setting: social histories, social scrapbooks and residents' committees. The role and work of an activity co-ordinator's role and work is also explained. Part B considers the potential for developing community links outside the residential care home: links with other homes, the recruitment and use of volunteers; the role of friends and family; lifelong learning; compilation of newsletters; and fundraising. To illuminate the contents, a number of case studies are presented throughout. These highlight a particular organisation or area of work, and many have useful contacts. (RH).
