Annotation | The personal social services sector employs one and quarter million staff, approximately 5% of the UK workforce, in an estimated 25,000 organisations with private, voluntary and statutory employers. This booklet outlines key themes for managing change in the social care sector: leadership during change; customer satisfaction; people as assets; resource management; and the "management edge" (an organisation's reputation for quality of care). A series of case studies illustrates management best practice: two residential homes, Wellfield Residential Care Home in Flintshire, and Headcorn Hall, Kent; two charities providing community-based support for people with learning disabilities, ELCAP in East Lothian and Midlothian, and United Response based in Putney; a similar not-for-profit organisation, Partnership, based in Aberdeen serving northeast Scotland; and a training centre for care staff, Barnsley Independent Care Consortium (BICC). General guidance on the national minimum wage (NMW) is also included. (RH). |
