Annotation | Research into creativity over the life course has a long history of concentrating on individual characteristics thought to be associated with shifting patterns. On the whole, creativity has been explained as a consequence of intelligence, cognitive style, personality, imagery, and other endogenous factors. However, these factors are not sufficient in themselves to explain differential creativity either by age or among diverse groups. This article summarises what is known about age-related changes in creativity and then proposes a typology involving a resource based relational model and explains it in terms of life-course change.
