Annotation | The efficacy of geriatric consultation depends on the implementation of consultants' recommendations. The researchers analysed house-staff implementation of 169 pharmacological recommendations made by the Geriatric Inpatient Consultation Team at the University of Michigan Hospital, Ann Arbor, for 261 patients. The most common reasons for the recommendations were: new drug needed, 43%; and inappropriate medication for geriatric patient, 17%. Most of the drug-needed recommendations were for major tranquillizers, 25%, followed by analgesics, 23%. The overall implementation was high - 62.7%. (RH). |
