AnnotationThe Beth Johnson Foundation has been looking for new ways in which to improve the quality of life of older people as they age, and to challenge negative stereotypes. One way it is seeking to do this is through developing a theoretical and practical understanding of the intergenerational exchange, and how this might present a model that is effective as an agent of social change. The paper begins with an understanding of what occurs within the intergenerational exchange and the theoretical framework underpinning it. The Intergenerational Programme Monitoring Project is an example of a piece of action research developed at the Foundation. The Project demonstrated a partnership between education and gerontology, and how a multidisciplinary partnership can widen the debate on ageing. (RH).
