The increasing need for education for nursing home nurses | Author(s) | Allan Hicks |
Journal title | Generations Review, vol 9, no 2, June 1999 |
Pages | p 13 |
Keywords | Nurses ; Nursing homes ; Training [welfare work]. |
Annotation | There is a misplaced perception that nursing home care is suitable work for less able nurses. This short article presents evidence for the need for quality care in nursing homes and for nurses to have a greater range of nursing skills, such as rehabilitation. The Royal Commission on Long-Term Care's report (1999) examined how changes in nursing care should be provided; while the United Kingdom Central Council for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting (UKCC) report, "Professional conduct" (1994) sought to raise awareness of the standards of care in nursing homes. The introduction of the Post Registration and Practice Innovation (PREP) provides an opportunity for nurses in nursing homes to gain recognition for their skills. (RH). |
