Annotation | Some half a million older people live in residential homes in England and Wales. This paper describes how residents in one local authority area (Manchester) contributed to the development of service specification relating to the quality of care to be purchased on their behalf. 86 residents in 45 homes were invited to meetings of focus groups. Participants were asked what they thought made a good home, and their information was compared with the existing service quality specification. Areas of overlap and discrepancies were identified. The article describes how the data was used to effect changes in the contract. (RH). |
