Annotation | In Australia, government funding for health and aged care services is moving from recurrent funding of institutions or programmes to funding of outputs. In this study, costs of community care services were calculated for 497 older clients of Linkages (Community Options) projects in Victoria, in 1992, to determine the extent to which the costs of intensive community care can be predicted and by which factors. Costs to government and carers were found to vary by project and were best predicted by client dependency, client incontinence, male carers and non-resident carers. Additional costs related to length of time as a Linkages client. The study concluded that client and carer characteristics had limited capacity to predict costs. (AKM). |
