AnnotationThe Health Survey series is part of an overall programme of surveys commissioned by the Department of Health (DoH) to gain regular information on various aspects of the nation's health. This survey focused on the state of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in England, and compared the results with the 1994 Health Survey on CVD. Interviews were held with 19,654 persons (adults and children), of which the majority also underwent physical examinations. The findings, for adults only, are divided into the following sections: prevalence of CVD; risk factors, including alcohol, smoking, eating habits, and blood pressure; relationship of CVD to risk factors and sociodemographic factors; physical activity; self-reported health and psychosocial well-being; and use of health services and prescribed medicines. Tables are included. (AKM).
