Annotation50% of Parkinson's disease (PD) patients experience difficulties with swallowing (dysphagia) and communication, and these can be due to a number of factors. Both one-to-one and group therapy have been shown to bring about sustained improvement in communication and social functions. The authors explain why referral to a speech and language therapist has the potential to improve the quality of life of patients with PD and their family carers. (RH).
