Annotation | In Australia, kitchens are now considered essential facilities at low care residential dementia centres. The aim is to make a unit more homely. The author presents the results of a survey of ten facilities in Sydney, New South Wales (NSW), examining how kitchens are used. Factors influencing kitchen use include: size of unit and number of residents; staff/resident ratio; staff confidence; and safety features. The author also collected accident and incident statistics for residents, staff and visitors. (RH). |
