| Annotation | While grandparents raising grandchildren is not new, growth has been rapid, with an increase of some 44% in the number of grandchildren living with grandparents and other relatives in the US between 1980 and 1990. This paper includes a brief profile of America's grandparent caregivers, and reviews the cause of the increase in intergenerational households headed by grandparents. It also describes the development of supportive services for grandparent caregivers and their families. (RH). |
