How many elders receive assistance? a cross-national comparison | Author(s) | Adam Davey, Elia E Femia, Dennis G Shea |
Journal title | Journal of Aging and Health, vol 11, no 2, May 1999 |
Pages | pp 199-220 |
Keywords | Informal care ; Cross national surveys ; United States of America ; Sweden. |
Annotation | Models of informal support received by over 75s in the US and Sweden are compared for demographic, cultural and historical differences. Patterns of informal help were higher in the US than in Sweden, but were qualified by higher order interactions by age, sex, and availability of kin support. Cultural differences pre-dating current policies in both countries appear to influence informal support over and above what can be accounted for by demographic differences alone. (RH). |
