Gender stereotypes data needs for ageing research | Author(s) | Victoria A Velkoff, Kevin Kinsella |
Journal title | Ageing International, vol XXIV, no 4, Spring 1998 |
Pages | pp 18-38 |
Keywords | Older women ; Ageism ; Demography. |
Annotation | There are four prominent stereotypes or misconceptions about older women: they are frail; they are poor; they are no longer active; and they depend on their children for care, especially in developing countries. The authors examine these stereotypes, and discuss gaps in the data. They also discuss the types of data that are needed to better assess the situation of older women. (RH). |
