AnnotationCarers benefit substantially from information sessions with health professionals, which means that patients do also. A conference some five years ago in the London Borough of Bromley looked at how strokes were handled in the area. Carers who attended stressed the importance of support received from a voluntary organisation, the Carers Information and Support Service (CISS). This article outlines the development of stroke information centres, arising from links established between CISS and the local hospital's stroke unit. Similar models of working can be adapted to other clinical areas which have high levels of dependency on carer support. (RH).
