Annotation | This report was commissioned by the Baring Foundation to help grant-making organisations to understand better the role and functions of the voluntary sector infrastructure. The term `infrastructure organisation' is used to to mean one which is not primarily a frontline organisation, but is one which instead provides services to frontline organisations. The report makes four recommendations: funders need to consider ways in which they can most effectively fund the infrastructure; grant-making trusts have a particular role in funding infrastructure organisations; infrastructure organisations will continue to need external funding if they are to offer leadership and innovation; and they should pay more attention to evaluate their own effectiveness and determining which infrastructure functions to develop.
