Annotation | It is widely recognised that service users should be given a say in how their services are run. Recent research conducted by, and involving older people, is considered. Counsel and Care's "Older people in control" describes six projects run by older people. A Help the Aged and Nuffield Institute for Health study, "Expecting the worst? Views on the future of long-term care", aimed to find out what is meant by "dignity and security in old age". Heather Clark, Sue Dyer and Jo Horwood's Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) study, "That bit of help: the high value of low level preventive services for older people", looked at the role of such services. Norma Raynes, in Ageing and Society (Jan 1998), describes involving residents in quality specification. Older people involved in commissioning services is reported in "A guide to involving older people and their carers in the planning of health and social care services: the Trowbridge experience" (University of Bath, 1998). J Bennington's "Local strategies and initiatives for an ageing population" (Warwick Business School, 1998) argues for a "community governance" role for local authorities. Tessa Harding considers the potential of the Better Government for Older People initiative. (RH). |
