Annotation | The 1998 consultation paper, "A first class service: quality in the new NHS" highlighted the need for a performance framework. This document sets out the NHS Performance Assessment Framework, revised following the consultation and road test. It explains ways in which the Framework should be used from April 1999 to: move toward assessing performance of the NHS, covering quality and efficiency; encourage benchmarking between similar NHS organisations; and underpin national and local performance and accountability arrangements. It also lists the High Level Performance Indicators to be used to ensure a more rounded assessment of NHS performance in 1999-2000. (RH). |
