Annotation | A series of seminars organised by HelpAge India highlighted factors affecting the demographic, socio-economic and psychosocial status of older people in India, and identified "grey areas" needing attention in the future. Wide-ranging recommendations centre on improving knowledge on issues affecting older people, and for the establishment of a national institute of ageing and a national monitoring agency. These ideas were discussed at the National Conference on "21st Century: a New Environment for the Elderly Making the Transition" held in March 1998 at Vigyan Bahwan, New Delhi. (RH). |
