Sex in old age continuing pleasure or inevitable decline? | Author(s) | Alan Riley |
Journal title | Geriatric Medicine, vol 29, no 3, March 1999 |
Pages | pp 25/28 |
Keywords | Sexual activity. |
Annotation | The biological need for sex declines with age. However, many older people continue to enjoy a satisfying sexual relationship well into old age. Some general practitioners (GPs) find it difficult to discuss sexual activity with their older patients, and this article explains how they can help. It is still possible to identify and treat conditions and to review medication in the light of sex-impairing drugs. The patient or couple can then be referred for sexual and relationship therapy to an accredited therapist. (RH). |
