Annotation | There is some disagreement about what to call the provision of support for community care in the form of breaks for both carers and those cared for. The most commonly used term is "respite", which is now thought of as being too negative. Short-break is favoured as a more positive term, as "holiday" is also regarded as inappropriate to the circumstances. This guidebook outlines good practice in the provision of short-term breaks, with examples of schemes provided by voluntary organisations and charities. The guide concludes with a good practice checklist. Although not mentioned on the item, this guide is published by the Department of Health (DoH). (RH). |
