AnnotationThe national strategy for carers being introduced by the Government aims to offer practical help for carers. The approach has three strategic elements. First, information, including a new charter on long-term care services, and on setting standards. Second, support for carers in carrying out their caring responsibilities. Finally, the rights of carers for their own needs to be met, which will include new powers for local authorities to provide services. Special measures for carers in employment and young carers are also outlined. Throughout the document, reference is made to other government publications, statistics, and research by individuals and organisations. Appendices include listings of telephone helplines for carers, and of types of support for carers offered by local authorities in England and Wales. Although not mentioned on the item, the document is published by the Department of Health (DoH). (RH).
